Catalogue of the exhibition Bartolom Bermejo, one of the most surprising and fascinating painters of the 15th century in the Iberian Peninsula Adapting the new pictorial model established by the Flemish masters to his own needs, Bartolom Bermejo (about 1440about 1501) combined a painstaking naturalistic technique with an extraordinary ability to reinterpret traditional themes and compositions. These skills are apparent in the nearly thirty works that make up his small but select corpus, which have been brought together for the first time in an exceptional exhibition organised by the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Museu Nacional dArt de Catalunya. This book, published on the occasion of the exhibition, presents the results of the research carried out over a period of more than three years by a group of specialists. Their work in archives, libraries and restoration centres and, of course, their first-hand examination of the pictures themselves have enabled them not only to put together a new catalogue raisonn for this Spanish artist but also to reveal new aspects of his personality, painting technique and iconographic contributions. In Logroño, der spanischen Hauptstadt des Weins, sollen Santiago Malpás und ein gewisser F.R. mit ihrem Nissan ein »paar Kisten« abholen (darin befinden sich unter anderem: ein Haarföhn, ein Toaster und zwei Kanister Olivenöl) und sie zu einer ominösen Hütte bringen, wo sich ihr Freund, der reiche Winzer Modesto Cumba, verschanzt hat. Cuando en 1926 aparece la novela Tigre Juan. El curandero de su honra, el mundo cultural y artístico español se encontraba en plena ebullición. Ortega había publicado en 1925 su Deshumanización del arte, obra en la que figuraba una sección titulada "Ideas sobre la novela", que suscitó una serie de respuestas y debates públicos. Aunque al margen de los debates, Pérez de Ayala, con una actitud irónica y distante, se preguntó en un ensayo qué es una novela, cuál es su porvenir y por qué los novelistas no se dan por enterados de que alguien ha decretado su muerte y desaparición, anunciando, de paso la próxima aparición de la que había de ser su última novela larga: Tigre Juan. El curandero de su honra, con la que el autor era consciente de estar abriendo nuevos caminos en el terreno del arte narrativo. Por esta novela se le concedió el Premio Nacional de Literatura. El ambiente de su patria chica, Asturias, que vemos reflejado y recreado en casi todas sus novelas, se pone de relieve en Tigre Juan donde cobra tanta importancia la naturaleza misma y los motivos de la mitología asturiana.
