Als sich der neugierige indische Postbote Ramjut Pillay morgens auf dem Anwesen der berühmten oppositionellen Schriftstellerin Naomi Stride umsieht, entdeckt er ihre nackte Leiche. Laut dem Dorfpfarrer hatte niemand einen Grund, Hugo Swart, den treuen und angesehenen Bürger, zu töten. Doch am Weihnachtsabend liegt dieser niedergestochen in seiner Küche.
