Henry Stacpoole de Vere se narodil v Kingstownu, Irsko. Pracoval přes čtyřicet let jako lodní lékař, velký znalec Tichomoří. Spisovatel, jeho najznámějším románem je romantická robinsonáda „The Blue Lagoon“ (Modrá laguna, 1908), která se dočkala několikerého zfilmování. Používal také pseudonym Tyler De Saix. Od roku 1920 až do sví smrti žil na britském ostrově Isle of Wight.
