Název My filologové odkazuje k materiálu pro stejnojmennou „nečasovou úvahu“, v níž chtěl Nietzsche revidovat humanistický pohled na antiku a zpochybnit dosud bezvýhradně přijímanou roli filologů jakožto vychovatelů, protože podle něho ukazují jen falešně idealizovaný obraz klasičnosti. Zároveň tento titul zastřešuje Nietzschovy drobnější filologicko-filosofické práce (Homér a klasická filologie, Pět předmluv k pěti nenapsaným knihám), v nichž se antika pro Nietzscheho stává živnou půdou k úvahám o moderní společnosti a kultuře a které dokreslují jeho ranou filosofii, formulovanou v té době ve Zrození tragédie z ducha hudby a v Nečasových úvahách. Druhé, opravené a doplněné vydání přináší v příloze rovněž překlad čtyř dopisů, které se váží k vydání Nietzschovy knihy Zrození tragédie a přinášejí také ohlédnutí za jeho „filologickou“ kariérou. Přeložili a nové opravené vydání připravili Pavel Kouba a Petr Kitzler.
