Děj románu se odehrává 500 let po smrti Thalla Angkhorského. V Angkhoru vládne mladý král Xerakis. Jeho nevlastní bratr Malios se ho se svým otcem pokusí zavraždit. Jsou však odhaleni. Malios utekl do Jiundských bažin, kde je zajat ještěry a má sloužit jako lidská oběť jejich bohu Karandharovi. Ve stejné době se Xerakisovi zdají divoké sny o Karandharovi a o pochmurné budoucnosti. Poradí se s dobrým přítelem, který střeží magický průchod, na jehož opačném konci je sídlo Sorvy-Gatoka, nejmocnějšího z Mocných. Xerakis se vydá požádat ho o pomoc. V době Xerakisovy nepřítomnosti v Angkhoru probíhají přípravy na útok ještěří armády. Kerandhar se dostává na svobodu a netouží po ničem jiném než vrátit ještěrům vládu nad světem. Thall, který snad jen zázrakem přežil bitvu v Údolí smrti a přepadení chrámu Rytířů pentagramu, bojujících za spravedlnost, přísahal pomstu vládci Timorie a kněžím Kruhu smrti, kteří ovládli i okolní země, v nichž krutě a bezohledně vládli. Jako bohy vyvolený získal Meč minulost a s ním, horaly a několika přáteli se vydal do nepřístupných bažin, aby nejdříve svrhl nejvyššího vládce Kruhu smrti. Po ovládnutí jeho sídla, starobylého Anghoru, začali do města a jeho okolí přicházet utiskovaní lidé ze všech zemí Známého světa, které ovládal krutý vládce Timorie. Byl mezi nimi i princ a právoplatný následník trůnu Tartarosu, jehož zemi sužoval nelítostný přívrženec timorského krále. Thall vyrazil se svými přáteli, novými Rytíři pentagramu a v čele vojska vytvořeného z obyvatel Angoru do Tartaroeu, aby dokončil svoji pomstu, pomohl princi na trůn, porazil Timorii a osvobodil obyvatele porobených zemí od nelidského útlaku. -- zdroj: legie.info --
