Poté, co prošel Nizozemskem, Německem a dorazil do Vídně se zastávkou v Praze, se vydal dále slovanskými oblastmi, po proudu Dunaje do Maďarska, Sedmihradska, Rumunska a na Balkán. In einem Husarenstreich entführt eine Einheit unter Patrick Leigh Fermor 1944 den deutschen Generalmajor Kreipe im besetzten Kreta.
