Vážený čtenáři! Otvíráš knihu, jež byla napsána již téměř před sto lety. Ovšem i po takových letech lze s úspěchem tvrdit, že v mnohém nebylo toto dílo slavného „moravského" psychoanalytika dodnes překonáno. Nemáme však přitom na mysli jakési sexuální excesy, jimiž měšťácká společnost (i za pozdějšího přispění u nás vládnoucích komunistů) zahalila Freudovo olbřímí dílo. Jeho Výklad snů je totiž základní prací vědeckého výzkumu snů a co se týče honu za „pověstnou" sexualitou, pak sexuální symbolice ve snech nevěnuje Freud ani desetinu celé své čtyřsetstránkové práce, přičemž navíc na těchto pouhých třiceti stranách většinou jen cituje jiné autory zabývající se sny. Téměř třetinu svého díla věnoval Freud oblasti „snové práce", v níž mistrně vysvětluje, jak sen mnohdy dochází k „naprostým" nesmyslnostem a jak právě výklad těchto „nesmyslů" velmi napomáhá k tomu, aby snící porozuměl svému snu.
