Ernest Howard Shepard byl anglický umělec a knižní ilustrátor. Proslavil se zejména svými zvířecími ilustracemi s lidskými rysy pro knihy jako "The Wind in the Willows" od Kennetha Grahama a "Winnie-the-Pooh" od A. A. Milnea.

Pú a jeho přátelé objevují ve Stokorcovém lese různé skutečnosti, například že každý má talent na něco jiného, k čemu je dobrý déšť, co se stane s vodou v kalužích nebo proč některé věci plavou a jiné ne. V každé kapitole je jedna taková skutečnost popsána a vysvětlena jednoduchým a pro děti srozumitelným způsobem. Na závěr je připojen také námět na společnou hru pro děti a jejich rodiče nebo názorný pokus na důkaz toho, že jev popsaný v kapitole opravdu existuje.
