    Peter Murphy se narodil v roce 1946. Po absolvování Univerzity v Cambridge strávil svou kariéru v právu, jako advokát a učitel, v Anglii i ve Spojených státech. Jeho právní práce zahrnovala několik let v Haagu jako obhájce u Mezinárodního trestního tribunálu pro bývalou Jugoslávii. V roce 2007 se vrátil do Anglie, kde byl jmenován soudcem Korunního soudu. Žije se svou ženou, Chris, v Cambridgeshire.
