Star-Autor Warren Ellis (»Transmetropolitan« etc.) hat sich für seine Neuinterpretation in »James Bond: VARGR« stattdessen auf den Ur-Bond seines Schöpfers Ian Fleming berufen, versetzt ihn allerdings in die Gegenwart. Das heißt, 007 ist eher kaltschnäuzig als cool, mehr Chauvi als Charmeur, und die alte Playboy-Camouflage blättert sowieso schon seit längerem ab. Aber er hat nach wie vor die Lizenz zum Töten, und er ist entschlossen, sie zu nutzen. Nicht nur, weil er es gelegentlich muss. Sondern wohl auch, weil er es will. Denn der Bond von Fleming und Ellis ist sich über seinen Elite-Status im Klaren, weiß aber nur zu gut, was das eigentlich heißt: Dass er mit Aufgaben betraut wird, denen sich sonst kaum ein anderer stellt.
