Autor totiž nepochybně využil svých zkušeností s nominací na Bookerovu cenu za román Matčino mléko z roku 2006 a napsal lehkou, vtipnou frašku, v níž si utahuje z celého nakladatelského průmyslu: nakladatelů, kteří hledí jen na zisk, porotců, kteří účastí na ceně sledují vlastní cíle a knihy ani nečtou, ambiciózních autorů, pro něž je získání ceny věcí přežití, slávy či zapomenutí, a v neposlední řadě i médií, které nezajímá nic jiného než humbuk, který kolem ceny pomáhají vytvořit.
