Představme si, že v roce 1934 obdrží spisovatel H. P. Lovecraft dráždivou výzvu k napsání povídky pro avantgardní literární časopis Erotesque. Je mu nabídnut velkorysý honorář a příslib, že jeho dílo bude vydáno pod pseudonymem. Věčně živořící Lovecraft by větší sumu peněz samozřejmě uvítal, jenže věc má háček: povídka pro toto exkluzivní periodikum musí být hlavně a především erotická. Poněkud puritánský autor se napřed zhrozí, ale okolnosti ho záhy přesvědčí, aby nabídku přijal, popustil otěže své představivosti a sexuálně provokativní prózu si vyzkoušel… Edward Lee (1957–), který se s představou Lovecrafta píšícího nespoutanou erotiku v této knize popasoval nadmíru nápaditým a až šokujícím způsobem, už léta patří k nejvýraznějším autorům extrémního a transgresivního hororu. Lovecrafta uvádí jako svůj hlavní inspirační zdroj a mimo jiné i Tramvají č. 1852 se jej pokouší zasadit do zcela nového kontextu, pro někoho rouhavého, pro jiné podnětně originálního.
