Na zemi uzavřená manželství, která nejsou opravdová, však v nebi nepokračují. Ty dvojice, které patří k sobě, spolu zůstanou, ostatní se rozejdou po svých vlastních cestách. Tuto proměnu způsobily prožitky, které k němu podle jeho názoru přišly z jiného, metafyzického světa. Emanuel Swedenborg považoval sny za zrcadlo své duše a měl za samozřejmé, že pohledem do nemilosrdného zrcadla se neuhýbá. Každý z jeho snů mu tak sloužil jako varování nebo ponaučení, jako ponuka k ještě většímu usilování na duchovní cestě, k utužení vlastního ducha a posílení lásky k Bohu. Tato poctivost a opravdovost na duchovní cestě zapříčinila, že Snář obsahuje na svou dobu tak nepřípustné a šokující erotické pasáže, že je překladatelé z rozpaků raději vynechávali či překládali do latiny.

Nejznámější a nejčtenější publikace švédského autora, myslitele a mystika Emanuela Swedenborga (1688-1772) je detailním popisem života po životě, do kterého se lidé probouzejí po smrti svého fyzického těla; je o Bohu, o nebi, pekle, světě duchů a jejich obyvatelích. Swedenborg toto dílo napsal v latinském jazyce a poprvé je publikoval v roce 1758 v Londýně. V češtině vyšlo poprvé roku 1912, naše vydání obsahuje nový, moderní překlad srozumitelný pro současného čtenáře. In seinem Nachwort zu »Himmel, Hölle, Geisterwelt« schrieb er: »Der Herausgeber dieses Buches glaubte, einer Berufung zu folgen, als er sich im Januar 1922 entschloß, eine Ahnung des Swedenborgschen Geistes seiner Zeit zu vermitteln. Am Ende eines verlorenen Krieges, einer verworrenen Revolution, bar aller seelischen Güter, verdorben und verarmt, im Beginn einer ungeheuren Entwertung, die sie um ihr letztes Stück Brot, um den letzten Rest geleisteter Arbeit zu betrügen drohte, schien die Nation auf den Trümmern der Gemeinschaft neuer, geistiger Kräfte zu bedürfen.« So entstand die vorliegende »Nachdichtung«, die mit Hasenclever gesprochen »mehr als eine Übersetzung und weniger als eine Dichtung war«. Ihr Text stammt hauptsächlich aus »Himmel und Hölle« und zu einem geringen Teil auch aus »Himmlische Geheimnisse«. Hasenclever konnte mit seiner Begeisterung für Sweden-borg seinen Freund Franz Werfel und viele Künstler an-stecken. Anton von Webern schrieb an seinen Freund Arnold Schönberg: »Ich lese jetzt Swedenborg. Mir vergeht der Atem dabei. Ich habe Kolossales erwartet, aber es ist noch mehr.«

Emanuel Swedenborg (1688 – 1772) ist der deutschsprachigen Leserschaft bisher fast ausschließlich aufgrund seiner esoterischen bzw. theologischen Schriften bekannt. Nur Wenige wissen, dass er bis in seine späten 50er auch als wissenschafftlicher Universalgelehrter in Europa hoch geschätzt war, wobei er stets die Versöhnung zwischen Naturwissenschaft und Geist suchte. Daher ging er bereits früh von zwei sich einander entsprechenden und stets interagierenden Sphären aus – einer himmlischen und einer irdischen. Um das Wesen und die Interaktion dieser Sphären besser verstehen zu können, hielt Swedenborg das minutiöse Verständnis von Anatomie und Physiologie für essenziell. Sein faszinierendes Frühwerk ‚Über Tremulationen’ belegt dabei, wie er bereits wellenförmige Phänomene unterschiedlichster Ausprägung als Schlüssel zur o. a. Interaktion, jeglicher Sinneswahrnehmung und sogar des Lebens an sich einschätzt. Schlüsselmedien bilden hierbei gespannte Membranen, Knochen, das Blutkrieslauf- und das Nervensystem, sowie das Fließen der Körperflüssigkeiten. Damit begründet Swedenborg ein neues physiologisches Denken, das die Fundamente der Osteopathie, v. a. der Kraniosakralen und Biodynamischen Osteopathie entscheidend prägen sollte.‚Über Tremulation’ basiert auf der englischen Übersetzung ‚On Tremulation’ von C.
