Mac je obyčejná holka z malého jižanského města, která se stará především o nehty a dokonalé opálení. Její bezstarostný život ale trvá jen do chvíle, kdy najdou tělo její mrtvé sestry, která jí stačila v hlasové schránce zanechat podivný vzkaz... Ve snaze přijít tajemství na kloub vyráží do Dublinu, kde nachází sestřin rozházený byt a množství stop. Postupně se zaplétá do přediva klamu a lží a zjišťuje, že je stejně jako její mrtvá sestra obdařena zrakem, jímž dokáže nahlédnout do světa, který zůstává ostatním lidem utajen. Zajímá ji jediné: najít knihu, která možná stála její sestru život a může přivodit zkázu celému lidstvu.
