This popular Japanese language textbook series offers a comprehensive approach with over 20 components, including texts, workbooks, and audio materials. A decade after its last revision, the series has been redesigned to cater to modern learners seeking to acquire natural, spoken Japanese efficiently. The updated book features a sleek design and thematically linked lessons, facilitating easier learning. A new CD accompanies the text, providing audio for dialogues and listening exercises, while the revised exercises focus on comprehension and production tasks, many of which are illustrated for an engaging experience. This first volume introduces "survival Japanese," covering the essential vocabulary and grammar needed to navigate life in Japan, with content limited to about a third of a typical first-year course. Additionally, cultural notes enhance the learner's understanding of Japan and its customs. The series is available in two formats: the Romanized Version, which uses romanized Japanese with kana in the opening dialogues, and the Kana Version, which immerses students in hiragana and katakana from the start. Both versions contain identical content. A companion workbook offers illustrated exercises to reinforce the basic sentence patterns introduced in the main text.
