I Am Your Island is a collection of intimate short stories inspired by the photography of Werner J. Bertsch. Austrian-born photographer Werner J. Bertsch, enjoys capturing nature's intense colors and light. After visiting the island of Aruba for the first time in 1984, he became fascinated with the contrast of its landscape, the diversity of its culture and the friendliness of its people. All have become some of his favorite photographic subjects, and are captured within the pages of I Am Your Island.

Aruba is 16.9 miles long and 6 miles across totaling 77 square miles or 193 square kilometers. It is located 19 miles north of the Venezuelan coast, 990 miles from Miami, outside the hurricane belt. The average temperature is 81°F or 27°C with very little variation throughout the year tempered by the northeasterly trade winds. The official language is Dutch, the native language is Papiamento. English and Spanish are spoken widely. Aruba became autonomous member of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1986, with a democratically elected government. The Head of Government is the Prime Minister which holds executive power with a Council of Ministers and a 21-member Parliament. The Chief of State is the Governor, appointed by the Queen of the Netherlands.
