Tajemství dávných náboženských sekt lákají k odhalení U trhovce na jedné prašné alexandrijské ulici objeví egyptolog Daniel Knox víčko keramické nádobky, do níž prastará sekta esejců ukládala náboženské svitky. V roce 323 před Kristem zemřel v Babylonu legendární vojevůdce Alexandr Veliký a jeho ostatky byly poté přeneseny do egyptské Alexandrie, kde byl ve zlatém sarkofágu pohřben v okázalém mauzoleu, jednom z divů světa. Tak to mělo zůstat navěky, ale po řadě zemětřesení, válek a požárů se Alexandrův hrob ztratil. V roce 2007 se setkáváme s potápěčem a archeologem Danielem Knoxem, který pátrá po místě Alexandrova posledního odpočinku. Během stavby nového hotelu dojde k nálezu hrobky a Daniel je přesvědčený, že je v ní uložen právě tento slavný vojevůdce, ovšem vidina zlata a drahých kamenů, jimiž byl hrob vybaven, láká i jiné lovce pokladů, a z Daniela a jeho pomocnice Gaille se stává lovná zvěř, protože chamtivost hledačů dávno ztraceného bohatství nezná mezí.
