Peter de Rosa, ein kritischer Katholik aus Irland, fordert in diesem Buch zum Umdenken in Glaubensfragen auf. Er plädiert dafür, daß die Gläubigen einen radikalen Bruch vollziehen mit der in Dogmen und Lehrmeinungen erstarrten römischen Kirche. Statt dessen sollten sie sich wieder auf die Mythen des Christentums besinnen und einlassen. "Vom Jesus-Mythos zu sprechen bedeutet nicht, Jesus abzuwerten oder die Tatsache zu bezweifeln, daß er gelebt, gelehrt, gelitten hat und auf Golgatha gestorben ist," sagt de Rosa. "Im Gegenteil: Der Jesus-Mythos ist die Spur eines wirklich Menschen."

Peter de Rosa plädiert Buch für eine Veränderung der katholischen Kirche von innen heraus. Er fordert den Vatikan auf, umzudenken und nicht länger an veralteten Dogmen festzuhalten, sondern sich aufgeschlossen mit den Problemen unserer Zeit, wie zum Beispiel dem der Überbevölkerung, auseinanderzusetzen.
