Revitalising European Heritage - A Norwegian Contribution

This book opens a window onto the exciting range of our breathtaking European cultural heritage through short informative texts and splendid photographs. It highlights the collaborative effort to preserve cultural heritage in Europe, showcasing 225 projects supported by the EEA and Norway Grants. While only a few examples can be presented, the aim is to illustrate the diversity of the project portfolio and to highlight the treasures that beneficiary states have received support for. Approximately two-thirds of the approved projects focus on conserving built heritage, including palaces, fortifications, manor houses, religious buildings, Roman ruins, and coastal culture. These historic environments serve as resources for creativity, allowing beneficiary states to restore buildings and breathe new life into them. Cultural heritage sites can be repurposed to create jobs, attract tourism, and foster a sense of identity and roots among communities. Notably, a fifth of the projects involve a Norwegian partner, enhancing bilateral relations within the cultural heritage professions. This initiative has enriched the knowledge of Norway's diverse history and cultural heritage among involved actors, while also sparking curiosity about Norway in Europe.
