Abby je milá a krásná dívka, která si maluje svou budoucnost v růžových barvách. Její krása ale bohužel učarovala i Ebenezeru Masonovi. Ten dává svůj zájem nepokrytě najevo, ale Abby o něj nestojí a dokonce jím zcelého srdce pohrdá. Ebenzer je ovšem muž, který se nenechá jen tak odbýt a když něco chce, umí se postarat, aby to dostal. Protože ho mladá dívka očividně nechce vyslyšet, rozhodne se, že najde jiný způsob, jak dosáhnout svého. Účel světí prostředky, a tak se Ebenezer dostane Abby podvodem.
