Po fenomenálním úspěchu díla Pod dekou pracoval Craig Thompson dlouho na svém mistrovském díle, téměř sedmisetstránkové alegorii ve stylu arabských pohádek a islámských příběhů. Odehrává se ve fiktivním světě, který je krutější a soudobější verzí Tisíce a jedné noci, a líčí životní osudy Dodoly a Zama, dvou uprchlých dětských otroků. Ti v ní projdou mnoha proměnami a překonávají početné překážky, jež se staví do cesty jejich lásce a shledání. Habíbí je milostný příběh s početnými přesahy, podobenství o roli člověka v přírodě, výpověď o rozdílech mezi vyspělým a rozvojovým světem, líčení společného kulturního dědictví křesťanství a islámu a v neposlední řadě opět neskutečná hostina vyzrálého vypravěčství a košatého, orientálně zdobného výtvarného stylu, který autora prudce odlišuje od minimalismu, jenž v oblasti „komiksů pro dospělé“ jinak drtivě převažuje.
