Celý bláznivý projekt se zrodil v hlavě jemenského šejka, zbožného a bohatého muže, jehož láska k lovu lososů a neotřesitelné přesvědčení, že lze vírou dosáhnout nemožného, nakonec Freda nadchnou. Potlačí v sobě všechny logické námitky - i námitky své nesnesitelné ženy. Když se pak setká s šejkovou elegantní a krásnou správkyní majetku, trhlina, která se objevila v jeho pečlivě organizovaném životě, se ještě zvětší. A když se společně vydají na neobyčejnou cestu víry, a rybolovu, nesmělý dr. Jones v sobě objeví zdroj důvěry, lásky a hrdinství, který zaskočí nejen jeho samotného... Hlavním hrdinou románu Mezipatro je Michael Gascoigne, jehož zdravotní stav - zejména psychická stránka - vyžaduje užívání léků. Po spontánním rozhodnutí, že léky brát přestane, protože mu svět už dlouhou dobu připadá černobílý, dostane jeho život až nečekanou škálu barev. Při návštěvě přátel v Irsku uvidí při prohlížení obrazů na zdi nejasně vymalovanou dívku v zeleném. Ta je jen přeludem, hlavní hrdina ji však během příběhu stále potkává v halucinacích. Jako by jí naslouchal a ona vedla jeho ruku … A ne bez následků. Kniha nesmírně čtivým a napínavým způsobem polemizuje o dvou tvářích jednoho člověka, které jsou v současné moderní společnosti tak běžné.

Wilberforce, mladý, úspěšný majitel softwarové společnosti, obvykle odchází z práce po devatenácté hodině. Cestou domů kupuje v blízkém supermarketu pizzu či jiné hotové jídlo, které po příchodu domů ohřeje v mikrovlnce a sní. Potom zapne počítač a dál pracuje na vývoji nového softwaru. Jde na pár hodin spát. A kolem páté opět vyráží do kanceláře. Jednoho dne se však tento rytmus nenadále změní. Má dojem, že kdesi za horizontem na něj čeká něco, co dosud nepoznal. Když vyjede na vrchol, stane před cedulí s nápisem Francis Black - kvalitní Bordeaux. Návštěvníci jsou vítáni. Chvíli váhá. Připadá si jako Alenka, která na stolku v zaječí noře objevila lahvičku s nápisem Vypij mě. Má jít dál? Potom mávne rukou a řekne si - proč ne? Udělá krok a ocitne se v říši divů.
