Nutnost koexistence s vetřelci se stala záležitostí všedního života – a smrti, zatímco expanze lidstva napříč galaxií pokračuje. A navzdory tomu, že každé setkání se smrtícími xenomorfy zcela nevyhnutelně končí pohromou, lidská chtivost a arogance stejně nevyhnutelně podněcuje touhu po zkrocení démonických šelem a odhalení tajemství jejich biologie. Všechny tyto snahy spějí k proměně vetřelců na nástroj, s nímž si lidstvo vystaví ještě monstróznější budoucnost. Na dvě věci se však nikdy nesmí zapomínat, natožpak je podcenit: Na věčnou, nelítostnou smrtonosnost vetřelců a slepou, monumentální bláhovost lidí. Série Vetřelci amerického vydavatelství Dark Horse Comics zaznamenala velké úspěchy a nastavila vysokou laťku všem ostatním pokusům o rozšíření světa populárního filmu s pomocí komiksového zpracování. Pátá kniha vetřeleckých komiksů obsahuje další známé příběhy a přes 350 barevných stran od špičkových tvůrců oboru, jako například Johna Byrna, Marka Schultze, Johna Arcudiho, Richarda Corbena, Jima Woodringa, Guye Davise, Rona Marze, Bernieho Wrightsona a dalších.
Nápad Masky pochází z hlavy Mikea Richardsona a poprvé se objevil roku 1985 v amatérských publikacích vydávaných budoucím šéfem Dark Horse Markem Verheidenem. Po založení DH se Maska objevila jako Masque (v podání scenáristy a kreslíře Marka Badgera) v prvních číslech magazínu Dark Horse Presents. Z Masque se ale stala hodně politická záležitost, a tak to Richardson típl ve snaze vrátit postavu zpátky ke kořenům. K tomu došlo roku 1989, díky tvůrcům Johnu Arcudimu a Dougu Mahnkemu, kteří stvořili něco mezi Králíkem Bugsem a Terminátorem. V tomto omnibusu najdete všechny tři knihy z jejich společné spolupráce: Maska, Maska se vrací a Maska vrací úder. Pak už postava přecházela z ruky do ruky a tvůrci se měnili stejně jako nositelé nebezpečného magického artefaktu. První příběh inspiroval úspěšný film s Jimem Carreym… ale počítejte s tím, že originál je mnohem temnější (avšak stejně zábavný). Maska dodnes patří k nejslavnějším postavám z nakladatelství Dark Horse.
