Kniha Roberta Sheltona Bob Dylan: No Direction Home je jediným vyprávěním o počátcích dráhy světoznámého písničkáře „z první ruky“. Shelton jako první rozpoznal v Dylanovi talent a napsal o něm v New York Times. S Dylanem se přátelil až do konce sedmdesátých let a svou knihu psal s jeho souhlasem a spoluprácí. Dylan Sheltonovi rovněž umožnil hovořit s rodiči, bratrem a přáteli a poskytl mu řadu rozhovorů. Shelton knihu dokončil až po dvaceti letech. Poprvé vyšla v roce 1986 v mnohem kratší podobě, než autor zamýšlel. Editorka současné verze Elizabeth Thompson jeho původní dlouhý text zveřejnila v roce 2011 u příležitosti Dylanových sedmdesátých narozenin. Hannah, která si o matčiných pohnutkách myslí svoje, nakonec zdráhavě souhlasí s tím, že ji do Paříže doprovodí, aby tam, světe, div se, společně objevily byt prababičky Ivy, zamrzlý v roce 1940 a pokrytý vrstvou prachu.
