Psal se 26. duben 1986. V 01:23:40 v noci stiskl vedoucí směny Alexandr Akimov nouzové tlačítko na ovládací konzoli 4. bloku Černobylské jaderné elektrárny. Co nastalo poté, vyústilo v nejhorší jadernou katastrofu v dějinách. Ta si vyžádala trvalé uzavření velkého, dosud prosperujícího města a rozsáhlé oblasti kolem něj. Došlo k evakuaci desetitisíců lidí. Katastrofa způsobila přímou i nepřímou smrt několika dalších tisíců lidí. Urychlila rozpad Sovětského svazu. Likvidace následků už spolykala astronomickou sumu finančních prostředků ve výši několika desítek miliard dolarů a dodnes není vyřešena. Nešlo o první, ani poslední vážnou jadernou havárii, ale nepochybně se jedná o tu nejhorší ze všech. A vzalo si lidstvo z této události vůbec nějaké ponaučení?
