Z předchozích dvou vyprávění si jistě pamatujete, že lovecký pes Shiloh sehrál v Martyho a Juddově životě opravdu významnou roli. Marty a Shiloh-tahle dvě jména se vtiskla do paměti jako symol krásného přátelství mezi venkovským chlapcem a loveckým psem, který utekl před krutostí svého původního pána. Marty vystrašeného bígla od pytláka Traverse vykoupil za slib mlčení o zastřelené lani a vlastní prací u něj, a Shiloh v rodině Prestonových konečně našel opravdový domov. Problémy tím však neskončily:Judd se ve skutečnosti nedokázal se ztrátou psa vyrovnat a všemožně se snažil o něj Martyho připravit. Drama pokračuje a není jen o tom, kdo s koho.
