Vztek je energie – otevřená, vtipná a svérázná autobiografie Johna Lydona, který pod přezdívkou Johnny Rotten změnil tvář popkultury nejprve jako frontman Sex Pistols, později jako zpěvák PiL. Bez jakéhokoli posměchu, ironizování a sentimentality Rotten vypráví o svém dětství v chudé čtvrti irských přistěhovalců v severním Londýně (s dickensovskou věcností popisuje, jak vynášel kbelík s mrtvolkami dětí, které nechtěně potratila jeho maminka), o své nemoci (v sedmi letech onemocněl zánětem mozkových blan – půl roku ležel v kómatu v nemocnici, a když se probudil, nepoznával své rodiče) a o dospívání mezi hrubozrnnými fanoušky Arsenalu, o hře na triangl ve školním orchestru a přátelství se Sidem Viciousem. Přestože se Lydon dlouhá léta pohyboval v podivuhodné společnosti, ať už to byli punkáči nebo manažeři ze šoubyznysu, dokázal si uchovat vnitřní integritu a zachovat jasnou hlavu a podat o tom přesvědčivé svědectví.

Autobiografie Johnnyho Rottena (vlastním jménem John Lydon) popisuje, jak se z původně nesmělého až zakřinutého kluka vyrůstajícího v chudém prostředí londýnské pracující třídy stala v hudebním světě respektovaná osobnost a ikona britské punkové scény 70. let. Kromě vzpomínek samotného aktéra obsahuje kniha řadu postřehů nejrůznějších lidí, kteří měli se Sex Pistols co dočinění, za všechny jmenujme alespoň hudebníky Billyho Idola nebo filmaře Juliena Templa. Mnohými komentáři přispěli i ostatní žijící členové kapely, ovšem až na baskytaristu Glena Matlocka, který Rottenovi prostě nepadl do oka. Nemalý prostor je věnován i manažerovi Sex Pistols, Malcolmovi McLarenovi, kterému Rotten rovněž nemůže přijít na jméno. Situace dokonce dospěla tak daleko, že se s ním Johnny Rotten dlouhá léta (úspěšně) soudil. Text knihy je doplněn množstvím fotografií, z nichž některé nebyly do vydání knihy nikdy předtím publikovány. Nemálo příznivců punku jistě překvapí, že Johnny Rotten ve své biografii nevystupuje jen jako rebel a ortodoxní punkáč, ale i jako upřímný, citlivý a vnímavý člověk, který se nestydí říct, co si myslí. Škoda, že takových lidí není na světě víc.
