Kniha s názvem O vlcích a lidech je o krásných, odvážných a tajemných zvířatech, jakými vlci bezesporu jsou. Ale také, a to především, o lidech a jejich vztahu k vlkům. Kniha je plná odkazů a ukázek z bajek, pohádek, indiánských příběhů či mýtů, které jsou obrazem doby, místa vzniku a momentálního vztahu člověka a vlka. V první části knihy se čtenář seznámí s vlkem jako takovým - popisuje původ, sociální strukturu, lov, teritorium a další aspekty vlčího života. Druhá část vypráví o vztahu indiánů a Eskymáků k vlkům, který je diametrálně odlišný od toho, jak se k vlkům chovala „moderní civilizace“. Různé, někdy až neuvěřitelně kruté a absurdní způsoby hubení vlka jsou uvedeny ve třetí části. Čtvrtou část autor věnuje historii pohledu člověka na vlka. Knihu uzavírá autorovo zamyšlení nad současnou podobou soužití lidí s vlky. Svěřuje se i s vlastní zkušeností s chovem vlků, s radostmi i úskalími, které toto rozhodnutí přináší. Ačkoliv se jedná o knihu starší, s černobílými fotografiemi, řadí se svým obsahem k „povinné četbě“ každého, kdo má o vlky hlubší zájem. Českým čtenářům ji zprostředkovává překlad Venduly Davidové, která má k vlkům velmi vřelý vztah.
