Na základě systematického studia a pečlivého pozorování připravil renomovaný britský novinář a profesor politických věd knihu, ve které se pokouší zachytit všechna významná životní údobí Václava Havla včetně rodinného zázemí, prvních literárních pokusů a divadelních počátků až k dnešku, kdy tento výsostný dramatik a humanista stojí v čele státu. Na základě několika osobních setkání i v předlistopadovém období autora této knihy zaujala i politická a lidská osobnost člověka, který se později stal symbolem odporu proti totalitní moci. Ovšem osobnost V. Havla Keane rozhodně nevidí jednoznačně. V šesti tématicky odlišených kapitolách se snaží vykreslit zejména možné důvody a příčiny, které vedly především v druhé polovině 90. let k jistým rozporuplnostem a ke skutečnosti, že Václav Havel pravděpodobně nedostál všem cílům, jež si kdysi předsevzal.

Esej bývalého českého prezidenta, spisovatele a dramatika Václava Havla, poprvé vydaná roku 1989 nakladatelstvím Host. Havel v ní popisuje fenomén disidentství v post-totalitních režimech. Pojmenovává ho "moc bezmocných", což naznačuje úsilí disidentů konat společenská a politická rozhodnutí, ale nezakládat přitom svou moc na instituci státu.
