Pro své věštecké schopnosti byla nazývána „rýnskou Sibylou“. Dílo této německé mystičky, léčitelky, přírodovědkyně, spisovatelky, hudební skladatelky, teoložky, která usilovala o reformu církve, nepřestává inspirovat. Předkládaná kniha obsahuje překlad a komentář souboru Hildegardiných spisů, které se dochovaly pod názvem Výklad Atanášova vyznání víry. Druhou část knihy pak tvoří výbor z Hildegardiny sbírky liturgických zpěvů Harmonická symfonie nebeských zjevení.

Recepty, které obsahuje tato kniha, vycházejí z poznatků svaté Hildegardy o přírodě a o léčení zdravou stravou a bylinkami. I když není snadné přizpůsobit učení z 12. století uchu našich současníků, byly všechny recepty vyzkoušeny. Jsou složeny pouze z potravin, koření nebo bylinek, které jsou "lehké, stravitelné, dodávají životní síly" nebo obsahují ingredience, které svatá Hildegarda preferovala kvůli jejich příznivým účinkům na lidské tělo i psychiku.
