Rádžagópálačárí v knize svým nenapodobitelným způsobem zachycuje patos a krásu Válmíkiho kouzelného vyprávění. Světoznámý indický epos o vypráví příběh o vládci a jeho manželce, kteří se narodili jako smrtelníci, prožívali lidské strasti a ustanovili na této zemi dharmu. Rámův příběh, ovšem ještě nikoli jako psaný text, existoval dávno předtím, než slavný Válmíki vytvořil svůj epos. Příběh v dávných dobách zpívali ršiové prostřednictvím slov nevýslovné krásy. Válmíki však dal tomuto příběhu, předávanému z generace na generaci, přesnou podobu. Tak se zrodila posvátná Válmíkiho Rámájana. Toto dílo je psáno srozumitelným stylem a působí na čtenáře svou originalitou a krásou vyjadřování. Epos pojednává nejen o krásných příbězích, ale také o duševních a myšlenkových pochodech našich předků. Rámájana je hodnotným pokračováním Mahábháraty.

Po Rámájana druhý staroindický epos jehož autorem je legendární asketa a světec Válmíki. Uvádí čtenáře do úplně cizího pohádkového prostředí hinduistické mythologie. Vypráví o velké lásce krále Rámy a jeho ženy Síty, o jejich krutém odloučení a opětném setkání. Děj je zasazen do fantastické bohaté indické přírody, ve které se setkáváme též s božstvy a nadpřirozenými démony i poznáváme zlidštěný svět zvířat pomáhající Rámovi v jeho boji za osvobození Síty.

The great Indian epic rendered in modern prose India's most beloved and enduring legend, the Ramayana is widely acknowledged to be one of the world's great literary masterpieces. Still an integral part of India's cultural and religious expression, the Ramayana was originally composed by the Sanskrit poet Valmiki around 300 b.c. The epic of Prince Rama's betrayal, exile, and struggle to rescue his faithful wife, Sita, from the clutches of a demon and to reclaim his throne has profoundly affected the literature, art, and culture of South and Southeast Asia-an influence most likely unparalleled in the history of world literature, except, possibly, for the Bible. Throughout the centuries, countless versions of the epic have been produced in numerous formats and languages. But previous English versions have been either too short to capture the magnitude of the original; too secular in presenting what is, in effect, scripture; or dry, line-by-line translations. Now novelist Ramesh Menon has rendered the tale in lyrical prose that conveys all the beauty and excitement of the original, while making this spiritual and literary classic accessible to a new generation of readers.

The Brihat (the great) Yoga Vasishta or Yoga Vasishta Maha Ramayana as it is also called, is a work of about 32,000 Sanskrit couplets, traditionally attributed to Valmiki, the author of Srimad Ramayana. It is a dialogue between Sage Vasishta and Sri Rama, during which Advaita (the doctrine of non-duality) in its pure form of ajatavada (theory of non-origination) is expounded, with illustrative stories in between. This vast work was abridged some centuries ago by Abhinanda Pandita, a Kashmiri scholar, into 6,000 couplets, which go by the name of Laghu Yoga Vasishta. This is a masterpiece in itself, like the original Brihat. Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi used to refer to Yoga Vasishta frequently and has even incorporated six couplets from it in His Supplement to forty Verses (Verses 21 to 27). A further condensation of this work was made long ago, by an unknown author, into about 230 couplets, divided into ten chapters, as Yoga Vasishta Sara (Essence of Yoga Vasishta). By making this condensation the author has rendered a great service to all sadhaks. This is indeed a goldmine fit for repeated reading and meditation. Cohen's wide knowledge of Bhagavan's teaching and steadfast devotion inspired him to write on his Master. His reminiscences are sublime and his elucidation of Bhagavan's teachings is illuminating. His writings have inspired generations of devotees in their quest.
