Ten po návratu nejen že zabije všechny nápadníky, ale kupodivu i dvanáct Penelopiných služebných. Atwoodová se rozhodla vtipně a napínavě tuto starověkou epizodu podat a zcela po svém objasnit, co mohla mít Penelopa ve skutečnosti za lubem. Vychází v rámci mezinárodního projektu Mýty.

Delacourtová) pokleslých historických románů, avšak ve své primární identitě oslavovaná básnířka, vypráví v knize o tom, proč ji nejrůznější nepříznivé aspekty společenské reality, která ji obklopuje a generuje sérii těžko řešitelných okolností jejího vlastního života, donutily k pokusu vymknout se z existence předstíranou sebevraždou. Rozmlouvá s Orwellem nebo glosuje historii očima umučené antické filozofky. A je přitom břitká a neodolatelná jako vždycky.

Tato sbírka povídek a básní v próze od známé kanadské spisovatelky je nádherně bizarní: chléb v jejím podání věru nevyvolává představu oněch uklidňujících bochníků, šťastné konce nejsou tak docela šťastné, cynické pětileté děti vaří jedovatý lektvar a v dětské (?) hře na vraha musíte bezpodmínečně vědět, kdy je nejlepší přestat...
