Mason Funk se narodil v Los Angeles v roce 1958 a po absolvování Stanfordovy univerzity žil na několika místech, než se vrátil do Los Angeles a začal svou kariéru oceňovaného scenáristy a producenta. Jeho televizní a filmové projekty se zabývaly širokou škálou témat, od Matky Terezy po historii tajných nahrávek v Bílém domě. V roce 2016 založil organizaci OUTWORDS, která se zaměřuje na zachycení nadčasových příběhů průkopníků a starších členů LGBTQ komunity.
