Mabel Collins byla autorkou populárních okultních románů, módní redaktorkou a bojovnicí proti vivisekci. Její díla se často zabývala mystickými a duchovními tématy, což z ní činilo pozoruhodnou postavu v literatuře své doby. Collins svým psaním zkoumala hlubší zákoutí lidské psychiky a duchovního světa. Jan Pordage, anglický mystik a doktor lékařství, žil ke konci XVII. a na počátku XVIII. století. Svoje spisy psal kolem roku 1715. Se známou mystickou spisovatelkou Jane Leadeovou založil tzv. Filadelsfkou Společnost mystickou. Články zde předložené jsou vyňaty z velkého, trojdílného díla Pordageova: Božská a pravdivá metafyzika, čili podivuhodná a zkušeností nabytá věda o věcech neviditelných a věčných.
