Neoliberalism, neoconservatism, postmarxism, postmodernism—are today's "isms" genuinely new? Have we truly moved beyond traditional ideologies? This exploration traces the evolution of political ideology from the Enlightenment to the contemporary global landscape, highlighting the journey from Count Destutt de Tracy's "science of ideas" to President George W. Bush's "imperial globalism." Rejecting superficial updates to political belief systems, the author presents a unique perspective on their novelty: an increasing ability to express community in global terms rather than national ones. This shift reflects the aspirations of social elites in global cities and the hopes of migrants seeking opportunities beyond borders. Influenced by cross-cultural interactions, technological advancements, and scientific progress, the emerging global imaginary challenges the established political ideologies of the national age. While national identities wane, the global perspective has yet to fully dominate. However, the initial emergence of this global imaginary sheds light on a transformed ideological landscape. The narrative concludes with a timely reflection on the convergence of ideology and religion in this new global era, extending beyond the familiar examples of Christian fundamentalism and Islamic jihadism.
