Eine Analyse drogenfreier Hardcore-Punk-Kultur. Straight Edge entstand Anfang der 1980er Jahre als eine drogenfreie Subkultur innerhalb der Hardcore-Punk-Szene. Bald entwickelte sich daraus eine Bewegung, die sich auf alle Kontinente ausdehnte. 1981 schrieb Ian MacKaye, damals Sänger der Washington-D. C.-Hardcore-Band Minor Threat, den Song „Straight Edge“, um seinen Verzicht auf Alkohol-, Nikotin- und Drogenkonsum innerhalb der Hardcore-Punk-Szene zu verteidigen. Er initiierte damit – gegen seine ausdrücklichen Intentionen – eine Bewegung, die bis heute eine fixe Größe in der Welt des Hardcore-Punk darstellt. Dieses Buch zeichnet die Geschichte der Straight-Edge-Bewegung nach: von den Anfängen in Washington, D. C. über die sogenannten Youth-Crew-Bands der späten 1980er Jahre und die Vegan-Straight-Edge-Bewegung der 1990er bis hin zu der vielfältigen Straight-Edge-Kultur der Gegenwart. Ein besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf der ambivalenten politischen Dimensionen der Bewegung, die seit jeher zwischen konservativem Puritanismus und linksradikalem Aktivismus pendeln. Das Buch ist wesentlich darum bemüht, das oft als schwer zugänglich beschriebene poststrukturalistische Theoriengebäude zugänglicher zu machen, ohne es dabei zu trivialisieren. Einer spezifischeren Auseinandersetzung mit den explizit politischen Dimensionen poststrukturalistischen Denkens ist eine Auseinandersetzung mit seinen allgemeineren theoretischen Grundlagen vorangestellt. Die Einführung eignet sich so für alle, die an poststrukturalistischer Theorie Interesse pflegen und nach einer Einstiegshilfe in poststrukturalistische Theorienbildung suchen.

Die Sámi sind die indigene Gesellschaft des Nordens Europas. Ihr Siedlungsgebiet, Sápmi, verteilt sich auf die Staatsgebiete Norwegens, Schwedens, Finnlands und Russlands. Im Zuge der Kolonisierung Sápmis erfuhren die Sámi Landraub, Vertreibung und Zwangsassimilierung. Immer wieder widersetzten sie sich politischer Diskriminierung und ökonomischer Ausbeutung. In der gegenwärtigen Widerstandsbewegung verbinden sich Kämpfe um Klimagerechtigkeit mit Forderungen nach bedürfnisorientiertem Wirtschaften und indigener Selbstbestimmung. Die samische Widerstandsbewegung ist damit wegweisend für nachhaltige Lebensformen der Zukunft.
