The connection between architecture and hand drawing is explored through the sketches of Wolf dPrix, co-founder and CEO of Coop Himmelb(l)au. Over 53 years, these sketches have served as the foundational step for every design, even amidst the rise of digital architecture. Initially representing built works in the 1960s and 1970s, they now provide strategic guidance for complex projects. From a collection of 2,800 archival drawings, 1,300 were chosen to illustrate developmental dynamics, showcasing around 320 significant architectural projects as invaluable historical documents.

    • The construction and design of school buildings in Germany faces major challenges. Particularly in metropolitan areas, student numbers are continuously rising and, according to all forecasts, population growth is set to continue in the coming years. This is why new school buildings, including extensions and renovations of existing school buildings, are one of the central topics of investment policy throughout Germany today. In Berlin alone, additional space for around 70,000 new school children will be needed by the 2024/25 school year. Approximately 5.5 billion euros will be spent from 2017 to 2026 on the refurbishment and/or expansion of existing schools; about 40 new school buildings will be erected. Against this backdrop, the exhibition initiated and curated by Beate Engelhorn at Aedes Architecture Forum presents 12 contemporary school buildings in Europe that are exemplary for the implementation of current educational and urban planning models

Shenzhen is a city full of vitality. With its twelve million inhabitants it is a dense migrant city that was built randomly in a short period. Its history of development is a linear intersection of occasion and inevitability. Called into existence in 1979 with the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the city became a place where export-oriented manufacturers have been producing and assembling an enormous amount of goods. The exhibition 'SHENZHEN-ness: Space in Mutation' demonstrates the urban transformation on the basis of five cases: Shenzhen-Hong Kong Entry and Exit Border Controls, Shenzhen Hi-tech Zone, Huaqiangbei, Xiasha Square, and Dafen Village. These unique spatial prototypes illustrate the unconventional production process of Industry 4.0.00Exhibition: Aedes Architecture Forum, Berlin, Germany (30.06. - 15.08.2018).
