The Lady of Pattaya charmed me, displaying in her gestures and attitude the distinct signs of independence and pride, with serene traces of ancestral savagery on her face. She is an escapee from the poverty-stricken northeast of Thailand called Isan, and becomes a working lady of the night in Southeast Asia's most infamous entertainment center in search of a handsome and wealthy foreign husband to help support her family back home.
