Royal Palace, Park and Park Buildings
The palace and park of Linderhof is one of the most diverse and artistic ensembles of the 19th century. King Ludwig II of Bavaria created this synthesis of the arts in the years 1869 to 1880. The interior of the palace is Rococo, but on a far more opulent scale than its 18th-century models. The park combines Baroque motifs, such as magnifi cent water parterres, with characteristics of English landscape gardens, including fascinating architectural features.
Das Königshaus am Schachen, von König Ludwig II. von 1870 bis 1872 erbaut, steht im Wettersteingebirge in 1866 Metern Höhe. Die gutbürgerlich ausgestatteten Wohnräume des Erdgeschosses erinnern an ein alpines Feriendomizil. Im Obergeschoss herrscht dagegen orientalische Pracht. Hier erstreckt sich der Türkische Saal: Vergoldete, reich ornamentierte Wände, ein Springbrunnen, aufwendig bestickte Hocker und Divane sowie bunte Glasfenster fügen sich zum perfekten Abbild eines orientalischen Prunksaals.
The King’s House on Schachen, built by King Ludwig II from 1870–1872, is located at a height of 1,866 metres in the Wetterstein mountains. While the residential rooms on the ground floor in the bourgeois style resemble an alpine holiday home, the upper floor is furnished with Oriental splendour as a Turkish Hall. Here an authentic atmosphere of Oriental opulence is created with gilt, richly decorated walls, a fountain, elaborately embroidered stools and divans and painted glass windows.
