The Southeastern Nuba are a classless society with a unique duolineal descent system. This study analyzes in its first part the economic structures original to Nuba society (allocation of factors of production, response to ecological conditions, inheritance, etc.). The second part of this study outlines the connection of Nuba society with Sudanese and Western economy, i. e. how traditional economy reacts to the introduction of cash economy. In the final section the author draws his critic of development projects from his previous analyses of traditional and present day Nuba economy. Thus he shows some of the programs, e. g. that of mechanization of agriculture, designed to put economic pressure for change on traditional Nuba culture.
