E-mail se podaří dekódovat a na jeho základě vyjde najevo, že Palardy Gordiana infikoval zkázonosným virem, vyvinutým v prostředí nebezpečné teroristické skupiny. Rozbíhá se skutečný závod o život šéfa UpLinku, jenž vyústí do tvrdých bojů vysoko v kanadských horách… Politické vraždy, genetické laboratoře, supermoderní technologie a neprůhledné struktury teroristických organizací - to jsou hlavní ingredience, jimiž autorský tým Toma Clancyho okořenil nyní již čtvrtý díl úspěšné série Power Plays.

Als in der Herberge schließlich doch noch ein Platz frei wird, verlassen Maria und Josef mit ihrem neugeborenen Kind den Stall. Zurück bleiben dort die Tiere: ein Esel, ein Lamm, ein Kamel, ein Hund und eine Katze. Schon bald vermissen sie das Kind und versuchen, ihre Traurigkeit durch Geschichten zu vertreiben. Während die Soldaten des Herodes in Betlehem nach dem Kind suchen, müssen Maria, Josef und Jesus fliehen. Der Esel begleitet sie und der Hund lockt die Soldaten auf eine falsche Fährte.

Die Tiere im Stall reden nur noch von Weihnachten - und davon, wie ihre Ur-Ur-Ur-Großeltern einem besonderen Kind in einem Stall vor vielen, vielen Jahren geholfen haben. Nur das kleine Schwein Brunhilde, genannt Bruni, weiß nicht, um was es geht, hat nichts zu erzählen, hatte keine Verwandten im Stall von Betlehem. "Sieh es ein", sagen die anderen Tiere, "das ist nichts für Schweine!" So beginnt Brunis Flucht ganz allein hinaus in die frostige Winternacht, an deren Ende Schwein, Ochs', Esel und Menschen das Wunder der Weihnacht etwas besser verstehen. Manche der Bilder lassen die Leser beim ersten Hinsehen frieren, aber bald schon wird der Glanz und die sanfte Wärme der Tier-Weihnacht sie einhüllen.

Warum er ausgerechnet so einen wie Gordon zum Bruder haben muss, fragt sich Doug häufig. Denn mit Gordon gibt es immer nur Streit, meist aus heiterem Himmel. Das ist beim Zelten in den Rocky Mountains nicht anders, und eigentlich ist Doug ganz froh, dass Gordon nach dem Riesenkrach seine Sachen packt und ihn alleine lässt. Sonst hätte er den Puma vielleicht nie kennen gelernt. Doch als Gordon auch nach mehreren Tagen nicht zurückkehrt, macht sich Doug auf die Suche nach ihm. Er muss dabei einen gefährlich schmalen Pfad überqueren.
