Am 10. September 1898 wurde Elisabeth, Kaiserin von Österreich, am Genfer See vom italienischen Anarchisten Luigi Luccheni ermordet. Aus Anlass des 100. Todestages erscheint die mit über 260.000 verkauften Exemplaren wohl erfolgreichste Elisabeth-Biographie in neuer Aufmachung, im größeren Format der Styria-Biographien-Reihe, mit neuem Bildmaterial und einem Nachwort von Karl Vocelka. Die Zahl der Werke über Elisabeth ist Legion, dennoch gilt Conte Cortis Werk auch heute noch als die Elisabeth-Biographie, verfasst nach dem schriftlichen Nachlass der Kaiserin, den Tagebüchern ihrer Tochter und sonstigen unveröffentlichten Tagebüchern und Dokumenten.
