    Robert Knox byl skotský anatom a zoolog, který se zabýval i etologií a lékařstvím. V Edinburghu přednášel anatomii a zavedl zde teorii transcendentální anatomie. Jeho odkaz je však zastíněn zapojením do případu vražd Burkea a Harea, které sloužily k obstarávání těl pro pitvy. Neortodoxní metody získávání kadaverů a spory s kolegy zničily jeho kariéru. Později se věnoval teoriím o evoluci a etnologii, přičemž jeho práce v oblasti etnologie dále poškodila jeho pověst a zastínila přínosy pro evoluční teorii.
