William Archer

Byl jedním z prvních zastánců her Henrika Ibsena a blízkým přítelem a podporovatelem Bernarda Shawa. Archer se věnoval divadlu s velkým zájmem, přestože původně studoval práva. V Londýně si brzy vydobyl významné literární postavení a značně ovlivnil tamní kulturní scénu.

Exploring themes of identity and self-realization, this play delves into the struggles of an artist grappling with his past and the choices he has made. The characters confront their unfulfilled desires and the consequences of their actions, leading to profound revelations. Set against a backdrop of artistic ambition, the narrative examines the tension between personal aspirations and societal expectations, ultimately questioning the nature of awakening and the pursuit of authenticity in life.

    • This volume collects some of Henrik Ibsen's most important and influential plays, translated into English by three of the top translators of their time. 'Rosmersholm' explores themes of love, guilt, and redemption in the aftermath of a tragic death. 'The Lady from the Sea' deals with a woman's struggle to find her own identity in a patriarchal society. And 'Hedda Gabler' is a powerful study of gender dynamics, as a woman of privilege struggles to assert herself in a world that seeks to suppress her. For students of drama and literature, this is an essential collection.
