    Helen MacInnesová byla skotsko-americká autorka špionážních románů, jejíž díla se ponořila do spletitých světů intrik a mezinárodního napětí. Její psaní vynikalo pečlivým výzkumem a schopností vtáhnout čtenáře do napínavých zápletek. MacInnesová mistrně proplétala napínavé děje s psychologickým portrétem postav. Její romány zkoumaly témata zrady, loajality a morálních dilemat v globálním kontextu.

    • Napínavý příběh prvních dnů 2. svět. války. Čtenář s napětím sleduje líčení dramatického příchodu špiona do rodiny, do prostředí malé bretaňské vesničky, kde má vystupovat jako jeden její obyvatel, zajatý v Anglii. Díky veliké podobě obou se mu podaří oklamat vesničany i přátele, jen matka a milenka sedláka, jehož místo zaujímá, prohlédnou jeho přestrojení. Přesto se však stanou jeho spojenkyněmi a spolubojovnicemi, když v něm najdou stejného antifašistu jako jsou samy. Kniha je po literární stránce místy poněkud naivní, je však psána s velkou dávkou osobního prožitku.
