Leigh Brackettové se podařilo plasticky vyvolat onen prastarý Mars, jenž nás fascinuje natolik, že bychom s radostí obětovali cokoli, abychom jej alespoň jednou jedinkrát mohli navštívit.“ Tak velebí Brian W. Aldiss román, který je nejen považován za nejlepší dílo Leigh Brackettové, ale i za jeden z nejvydařenějších marsovských příběhů magazínové sci-fi 40. let minulého století. Druhý příběh Lorelei z rudé mlhy napsala Brackettová ve spolupráci s Rayem Bradburym. Je to jedna z mála povídek, do které se Bradbury pustil s někým jiným, a je pro něj zcela netypická. Jedná se totiž o příběh ve stylu meč & magie. Třetí příběh Basův drahokam je pak romantická science fantasy, jakou naleznete jen v éře pulpových magazínů a jejíž nostalgie je nakažlivá dodnes. Trojice příběhů je doplněna barvitým portrétem Leigh Brackettové, která bezesporu patří k neobyčejným osobnostem americké science fiction.

Na motivy filmového scénáře Star Wars: Epizoda V – Impérium vrací úder. Předchozí díl Hvězdných válek skončil triumfálním vítězstvím Aliance svobodných světů nad silami Impéria. Bitevní stanice Hvězda smrti byla definitivně zničena, avšak… Darth Vader, Černý lord, unikl. V tomto díle, se boj obnovuje. Luke Skywalker má opět po boku své nerozlučné přátele – priceznu Leiu Organu, Hana Sola, Chewbaccu a oba roboty, Artoo-Detoo a See Threepio. Kosmická bitva dostává nové rozměry: Luke Skywalker, vítěz Hvězdných válek, podstupuje tvrdý trénink – mimozemšťan Yoda cvičí Luka v bojových uměních, aby byl schopen čelit samotnému Imperátorovi. Je to týž Yoda, který kdysi vycvičil i Dartha Vadera, než se ho zmocnily síly Zla.
