    Matteo Thun. The Index Book
    • As a co-founder of the Memphis design group, Italian designer and architect Matteo Thun is responsible for some of the most distinctive product styles of recent times. The colorful postmodern furniture of the Memphis group, with its quirky mix of kitsch and futurism, helped define product design in the early to mid-1980s. In the early 1990s, Thun brought his cheerful aesthetic to Swatch, where he served as creative director until 1993. Brands such as Campari, Illy Coffee, Philips Electronics, and Porsche have been enlivened by Thun's distinctive style. His architectural work includes the Side Hotel in Hamburg, awarded Hotel of the Year in 2001, and the Vigilius Mountain Resort, which won the Wallpaper Design Award in 2004. Matteo The Index Book provides a comprehensive overview of his career from 1980 to the present in an A-Z format. It examines all aspects of his work, from architecture to product design – from coffee cups to restaurants, from mountain resorts to wristwatches, from cooking pots to villas. The book reproduces plans, watercolors, photographs, and sketches, approaching Thun's work through themes such as sustainability and the environment, economy and aesthetics, energy conservation, and contemporary luxury.
