Od doby, kdy domnělý Jason Bourne pátral po své ztracené totožnosti, však už uplynula řada let. Dnes je Webb univerzitním profesorem a vychutnává si život v klidu, kterého měl v minulé profesi jen velmi málo. Když se muž opět vztyčil, ve světle lampy se bíle zaleskla jehla a jakoby sama od sebe se mu zapíchla do krku. I když jehla skoro okamžitě zmizela, reakce na sebe nedala dlouho čekat. Mužovy svaly se napjaly a začal lapat po dechu. Ve stejném okamžiku žena otevřela oči. Měla je zamlžené touhou a zaostřovala je jen stěží. Přitáhla ho těsněji k sobě. Bravo se tedy nechává vést záhadnými vodítky a šiframi, které mu otec zanechal, a brzy se stává terčem i figurkou v nemilosrdné válce, v níž všechny zúčastněné strany usilují o totéž: zmocnit se Testamentu. Rytířům svatého Klementa to přikázal samotný papež již v období křížových výprav, ale jsou zde i jiní, novodobí zájemci s odlišnými motivy. Všichni velmi dobře vědí, že dávná listina by mohla uvrhnout celý svět do chaosu a možná i změnit dějiny. Nyní záleží jen na tom, zdali Bravo vyhraje souboj s časem a nalezne Testament dříve než jeho protivníci. Kniha je mysteriózním příběhem s prvky detektivky a thrilleru. Má svého dávného přítele zabít. Bez něj ovšem sám nepřežije.
