Bédier vytvořil na základě dochovaných zlomků, především pak z Béroulovy verze, rekonstrukci tristanovské pověsti, její nejstarší písemné podoby ve Francii a vydal ji v moderní francouzštině r. 1900. Jeho Román o Tristanovi a Isoldě – syntéza vědecké přesnosti a tvůrčí básnické intuice – zbavuje legendu nánosu staletí a citlivě ji přibližuje modernímu čtenáři. Tuto knihu podle francouzského originálu "Le Roman de Tristan et Iseut" přeložil prof. K. Šafář. Obrazy nakreslil a grafickou úpravu navrhl Zdeněk Guth vydal J. R. Vilímek v Praze / Písmem Bodoni - Antiqua vytiskla Česká grafická unie na limitovaném ručním papíru a 100 číslovaných výtisků na papíru Japan - chamois z nichž tento má čislo 58 V Praze o vánocích 1929
