Katalog přestavuje tvorbu známé a současně ve světě znovu objevované české malířky Toyen, která žila od roku 1947 ve Francii. Autorčino dílo je v něm prezentováno v širším kontextu jejích aktivit (skupina Devětsil, československá surrealistická skupina, pařížská surrealistická skupina), v pěti chronologických oddílech, pojmenovaných podle stěžejního díla daného období: Korálové ostrovy, Magnetová žena, Schovej se, válko!, Všechny živly, Nový milostný svět. Každý oddíl zahajuje podrobná biografie, která dokládá, nakolik je její rozmanité dílo úzce propojené s jednotlivými životními etapami. Vedle chronologických kontextuálních studií se texty věnují zásadním tematickým okruhům její tvorby, jakými jsou například erotika, politika, spektákl, alchymie, analogie, knižní tvorba. Autoři katalogu přinášejí pestré a vzájemně se obohacující přístupy, ať už jsou to básníci, doboví svědkové, nebo různě zaměření badatelé nejen z řad historiků umění. Knihu doplňují dosud nepublikované dokumenty a korespondence. Bohatý obrazový doprovod zahrnuje také řadu dodnes nezveřejněných fotografií Toyen.

The four collections shown in this book -- those formed by Roland Penrose (1900-84), Edward James (1907-84), Gabrielle Keiller (1908-95) and Ulla and Heiner Pietzsch (who have been collecting Surrealism since the 1970s) -- have different origins, trajectories, and historical contexts and come out of different creative urges.
